A visit to our custom-built mill is like stepping back in time. Oak framed looms dating back to the 1920s operate alongside modern Jacquard models, the noise of the old ironwork mechanisms is deafening. Threads from countless bobbins stream through the air, to be tenderly wound onto a large wooden spool by hand. The craftsmanship and time invested in every length of cloth is remarkable.
By managing every stage of the weaving process at the mill, Gainsborough maintains superior quality control and enhanced efficiency. For example, achieving a perfect colour match is a skilled art and can take anything between two days and two weeks. Through dyeing the yarn at the mill, Gainsborough is able to control the entire process to ensure flawless results on time.
